What can I expect to do in this role?
In this position, you will provide traffic engineering analysis support by:- reviewing and providing recommendations for specific projects in areas such as pre-contract engineering/construction, traffic operations/analysis, traffic signals, planning and data collection/management
- working with internal and external partners to conduct traffic operation studies, investigations, projects, data collection and analysis
- providing technical input to resolve safety and operational issues on the highway/road networks
- provide technical expertise in several areas including capacity analysis, collision analysis, roadside hazards, traffic control signals and intersection operations
How do I qualify?
Traffic Engineering Knowledge:
- You have knowledge of transportation planning, and technology to conduct reviews, investigations, related to traffic operational issues.
- You have knowledge of traffic data collection, processing and projection techniques.
- You have the ability to interpret and apply relevant sections of provincial legislation (e.g. Highway Traffic Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Municipal Act, Motorized Snowmobile Vehicle Act, Motorized Off Road Vehicle Act)
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- You have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to collect and analyse data and good judgment when assessing alternatives and developing solutions
Communication, Interpersonal and Organizational Skills:
- You have well developed communication, interpersonal and judgment skills to work tactfully with clients
- You can work in a team environment to establish and maintain good working relationships
- You are able to organize, prioritize and manage diverse projects and assignments under stressful and/or controversial situations and tight time constraints
Computer Skills:
- You have demonstrated skills in the operation of computer systems and software (e.g., relevant traffic/engineering software, word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, Internet/intranet searching) to access and analyse traffic data, conduct simulations and prepare drawings/graphics and reports.
