Position Description: Family & Children Services of Silicon Valley seeks a Peer Support Worker to assist in providing violence prevention and intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention to community members. This role is intended to prevent dating violence, domestic abuse, and IPV through trainings, presentations, education, outreach, and mental health education in various community locations in Santa Clara County. This individual will support potential at-risk clients by addressing risk factors and/or stressors while building protective factors and skills. This role is intended to help make the public behavioral health system more culturally competent and consumer-and family-driven. This program will seek to reduce disparities in access to services for community members due to stigma, discrimination, and lack of knowledge about IPV, DA, and mental health.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide direct client/participant services, including crisis intervention, intakes, outreach, and case management as needed, maintaining a caseload of 10-15 clients.
- Provide clinical guidance and support for the IPV team.
- Develop the IPV program, through community outreach, advertising, and networking, increasing the number of participants/clients, and expanding program opportunities.
- Develop an expectation for onboarding and continued education for IPV team and program.
- Manage, track, and approve clinical documentation, including client referrals, progress notes, intakes, safety plans, and other clinical documentation supporting clinical growth and development of traineeship staff.
- Attend resource events/fairs and network with local community stakeholders to support program growth and maintenance.
- Upholds compliance with agency documentation procedures, audit procedures, and clinical practices for self and staff in the program.
- Responsible for weekly meetings to support rollouts, training, and communication.
- Meets weekly with the Program Director for supervision and is required to attend agency staff meetings and in-service training.
- Participates in program activities.
- Assists with data collection and program reporting; Provides appropriate documentation and paperwork as needed.
- Offers trainings in IPV, healthy relationships, mental health, and suicide awareness etc.
- Promotes wellness and recovery groups.
- Develops effective working relationships with agencies and organizations to advocate for survivors, LGBTQ/Deaf and HOH/justice-involved consumers, and diverse community members.
- Provides referral to various county agencies, community mental health organizations; accessing benefits, personal medical services, social and recreational opportunities, special events, conferences, workshops and training.
- Attends additional trainings and meetings as required.
- Actively nurtures and advances the cooperative, harmonious and teamwork-oriented environment Caminar promotes within the workplace; through daily efforts and presentation promote an atmosphere of dignity and respect in line with the organization's mission, philosophy, policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned.
Requirements, Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
- Education: Highschool Diploma or GED required
- Experience: Experience in service delivery with diverse populations.
- Strong desire and commitment to advocate for the mental health and wellness concerns of diverse community members who experience IPV/DV.
- Bilingual preferred in English/Spanish, /Vietnamese, /Tagalog, /Cantonese, /Mandarin, or /Farsi.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
- Public speaking, training and facilitation skills required.
- Experience with IPV as a consumer, through family members, or other direct experience.
- Dependability: A demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative, using good judgment, and available resources.
- Prioritizing Ability: Demonstrated ability to organize workload, maintain multiple priorities, and sustain productivity and accuracy.
- Teamwork Skills: Knowledge of group development/dynamics required.
- Computer Skills: Knowledge of Database software; Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, and overall excellent computer skills are required.
- Event planning and volunteer coordinating skills desired.
- Experience with outreach and engagement, community education, or community organizing desired.
- Ability to provide transportation for co-workers, volunteers, and consumers; must have valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
Physical, Environmental and Mental Requirements:
- Physical: Occasionally required to push/pull objects up to 50 lbs., and to lift/carry objects up to 25. lbs.
- Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manual tasks such as typing, writing, etc. Must be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
- Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and plans. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with residents and staff, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and understand/be understood using the English language.
- Cognitive: Frequently required to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption. Must be able to attend to a task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time. Frequently required to understand and relate to specific ideas, several at a time. Must be able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over a period of several days.
- Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed (residential/office). environments. Occasional exposure to toxins and poisonous substances, dust, and loud noises.
- Equipment: Frequently required to use a computer, phone, and fax machine.
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance, as required by Title XXII, other licensing regulations, and Caminar practices.
- This position requires frequent driving. A valid California driver license, reliable personal vehicle, current personal auto insurance as required by law, and an MVR sufficient to obtain and reasonably maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are all essential job requirements.
- Must be able to pass post offer, pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Community Care Licensing regulations and/or agency policies.
- A personal cell phone with reliable service and, if applicable, a data plan to use for business purposes.
- May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
